Video poker offers a poker simulation that can be played at a fraction of the cost of its table counterpart. Just like slot machines, each additional coin wagered increases the amount of the payout.  With multi-hand Video Poker, not only can multiple hands be played simultaneously, but any or all of the favourable cards from the first hand can be copied to the others!

Object of the Game
In video poker there is no opponent, so the objective is to simply get the highest ranking hand possible.  Each hand played is independant of the others, except for the initial deal.

How to Play

The video poker screen displays three values:

  • Paid - The number of coins won from the last hand.
  • Credits - The total number of coins remaining in your balance.  This value will adjust according to the coin denomination setting of the video poker machine.
  • Coins - The number of coins to be bet on the next hand.  This is equal to the number of coins wagered per hand multiplied by the number of hands played.

The video poker machine also has six buttons:

  • Deal/Draw : When at least one coin has been bet, the deal/draw button will become enabled.  The first time the deal/draw button is clicked, the game begins and the initial hand is dealt.  Once the player has chosen which cards to hold (keep), the deal/draw button can be clicked a second time to draw the replacement cards for each hand played and complete the game.
  • Play 25 :  Quickly selects all five hands, bets the maximum number of coins per hand (5), and starts the deal.
  • Bet Max :  Allows the player to quickly bet the maximum number of coins per hand.  Unlike traditional Video Poker, the game will not automatically begin.
  • Bet One : Bets one coin at a time.  Once the desired number of coins is bet, the player must begin the game by clicking the deal/draw button.
  • Cash Out : Resets both the number of hands being played and the number of coins per hand to 0, returning the coins to your balance.  You may only cash out prior to starting the deal.

The Bets.  Select a denomination for the video poker machine by using the buttons below the "Select coin value" label.  This will set the value of each coin played.  Following this, choose the number of coins to be bet per hand (from one to five) by using the Bet One button to bet one coin at a time, or use the Bet Max button to bet the maximum coins allowed by the machine (balance permitting).  Next, increase the number of hands you wish to play by clicking the More Hands button (the first hand is always selected by default).  Finally, click on the Deal/Draw button to deal the initial hand.  Note that the Play 25 button will automatically cause the initial hand to be dealt.

The Cards.  Cards are ranked in order of their face value, with aces considered "high".  The ranking is from lowest to highest: 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, Jack, Queen, King, Ace.  Some games make use of Wild Cards (ie. a joker, or any deuce) that can be used as any other card (rank and suit) to improve the hand.  Read further in this help document for the details of how the cards are used by each of the Video Poker game variation.

The Deal.  Five initial cards will be dealt to the player's first hand only, of which, the player may choose to hold (keep) any, all, or none.  Any card that is held in the first hand will be copied into all the others hands played.  This means that by holding a winning combination in the first hand guarantees (at least) this winning combination in all of the other hands.  Each hand, using its own deck, will then have the opportunity to draw cards to replace any cards that were not held.  The final cards for each hand determines the payout for each hand.  The higher the rank of each hand, the greater the payout.  Note that because each hand uses its own deck, it is possible to receive the same cards in more than one hand... this includes the possibility of multiple Royal Flushes!

When you receive at least one hand that earns a payout, you may have the option to Double Up .  The Double Up feature is a "double or nothing" proposition whereby you can play a bonus game for chance to double your total winnings for that hand.  See "Double Up Feature" later in this help for more information.

Payouts
Video Poker payouts are calculated individually for each hand, based on the number of coins wagered per hand and the rank of each hand.  There is no opponent in Video Poker, so the player must simply try to achieve the highest ranking hands possible.  The higher the rank of the hand, the greater the payout.

The left side of the Video Poker machine displays a list of payouts for each type of hand based on the current number of coins bet per line.  These payouts are listed as the number of coins paid for a hand of the matching rank.  The denomination of the payout is equal to the denomination of the coin(s) wagered.

As you increase the number of coins bet per line, the list of payouts will automatically adjust to reflect the change.  Note that when betting five coins per line, a Royal Flush pays much more generously.

The Double Up feature, if available, allows you to play a bonus game to double the winnings earned for all the hands played during that round.  Each time you successfully double up , your payout doubles.  However, if you fail to win a double up bonus game, you lose all the winnings earned for that round.  If you choose not to double up at any time, the game ends and you keep all the winnings earned for that round.

For example: if you receive a Straight Flush and a Full House in the Deuces Wild game with 5 coins played, you win 65 (45 + 20) coins and you have the option to double up .  If you choose to double up and win the bonus game, you would be paid 130 coins!  If you decide double up again and win, you would then be paid 260 coins!  However, if you lost any round of the bonus game, you would be paid nothing and the game would end.

Video Poker Details

All American Poker is played with one standard 52 card deck with no wild cards. The lowest ranking hand with a payout consists of any pair of Jacks, Queens, Kings, or Aces.

Deuces Wild is played with one standard 52 card deck with all four deuces (2's) considered wild cards. It should be noted that in Deuces Wild a Wild Royal Flush (a Royal Flush that makes use of a wild card) ranks higher than a Five Of A Kind , and a hand containing all four deuces ranks second only to a natural Royal Flush .

Jacks or Better is played with one standard 52 card deck with no wild cards. The lowest ranking hand with a payout consists of any pair of Jacks, Queens, Kings, or Aces.

Joker Poker is played with one standard 52 card deck plus an extra joker that is considered a wild card. It should be noted that in Joker Poker a Five Of A Kind ranks higher than a Wild Royal Flush (a Royal Flush that makes use of a wild card).

Tens or Better : Tens or Better is played with one standard 52 card deck with no wild cards. The lowest ranking hand with a payout consists of any pair of Tens, Jacks, Queens, Kings, or Aces.

Placing Bets

Video poker bets are determined by the value/ denomination of the coins being played.  The left side of the video poker machine has a small digital coin value display that allows you to select from five different coin denominations.  As you change the value of the coins being played, you'll notice that the number of credits adjusts itself accordingly.

For example: $100 will provide the user with 400 25¢ credits
(100 ÷ 0.25 = 400).  If you increase the coin value to $1, the number of credits drops to 100.

All payouts are made using the coins with the same denomination as those wagered.

The video poker screen displays 3 values:

  • Paid - The number of coins won from the last hand.
  • Credits - The total number of coins remaining in your balance.  This value will adjust according to the coin denomination setting of the video poker machine.
  • Coins - The number of coins to be bet on the next hand, this is equal to the number of coins per hand multiplied by the number of hands being played.

To place your bet before dealing the cards, click the Bet One button to bet one coin at a time.  Each time you click the Bet One button, you will notice that one coin is removed from the credits value, and the coins value increases by one.  Video poker accepts a maximum of bet of 5 coins per hand (balance permitting).  If you have sufficient credits remaining, you can click the Bet Max button to quickly bet the maximum 5 coins on each hand currently selected, or you can click the Play 25 button to automatically select all five hands, bet the maximum 5 coins on each hand, and immediately start the deal.

Click the Cash Out button if you wish to return any coins you have bet to your balance.  This effectively takes the number of coins shown in the coins display, and returns them to your total credits .  The Cash Out button will also reset the number of hands selected to 1.  You may only use the Cash Out button prior to starting the deal.

Starting the Deal
If you click the Play 25 button, the maximum 5 coins are bet on all five hands and the deal begins automatically (balance permitting).  If you choose to bet one coin at a time using the Bet One button, or quickly assign 5 coins to each selected hand using the Bet Max button, you must manually start the deal by clicking the Deal/Draw button.

Once the cards have been dealt, you have the option to hold (keep) any of, all of, or none of these 5 cards (see below).

Any card that is held will be copied to all the other selected hands.  Any card that is not held will be replaced when you draw replacement cards by clicking the Deal/Draw a second time.  When replacing cards, each hand will use its own deck.  You should hold any cards you feel will contribute to the best hands possible.  To hold a card, either click on the card itself, or click the Hold button located just below the card you want held.  Once you are done selecting which card(s) to hold (if any at all), click the Deal/Draw button a second time to draw your replacement cards.  Any card that was not held will be replaced by a new card.  The game is now complete and the resulting hands determine your payout.

Double up Feature
When you receive at least one hand that earns a payout, you may have the option to Double Up .  The Double Up feature is a "double or nothing" proposition whereby you can play a bonus game for chance to double your winnings for that round.  This includes the payout for each hand played this round.  If you win the bonus game, your payout is doubled and you may have the opportunity to Double Up again.  However, should you fail to win the bonus game at any time, you lose all of your winnings for that hand.  Note that there may be a cap on the number of times you may Double Up as well as a cap on the maximum payout earned by this feature.

The double up bonus game is simple.  To start the double up bonus game, click yes when prompted to " Double Up? ".  Five new cards will then be dealt after re-shuffling the deck.  The first card, called the house card, will be turned over while the other four cards will remain face-down.  To win the bonus game, you must select one of the four unrevealed cards which you think will rank higher than the house card.  If the card you select has a higher rank than the house card, you win and your payout is immediately doubled.  However, if you select a card with a lower rank, you will lose all of the winnings earned for this hand and the game will end.  If the two cards are of the same rank, you payout will remain the same and you will have the option to double up again or stop and keep your current payout.

If the house card is a 2, you will win with any card except another 2 (where your payout will remain unchanged).  If the house card is an Ace, you must select another Ace in order not to lose all of your winnings.  Be aware that the five cards for the bonus game are dealt randomly from the re-shuffled deck.  Therefore, it is possible that none of the four unrevealed cards are of higher rank than the house card.
